The Art and Science of Contrology

The Art and Science of Contrology® Pilates Instructor Training Program (ASCPIT®), directed by Second Generation Pilates Teacher Trainer Simona Cipriani, is committed to standard classical Pilates. While the ASCPIT® is dedicated to preserving the legacy of Joseph Pilates, the trainers are also equally dedicated to teaching proper mechanics and physiology. The training programs are offered across the United States and internationally.

Master Teacher, ASC

25-years Pilates Instructor, Simona, was trained at and was certified by the New York Pilates Studio and studied extensively with Master Teacher Romana Kryzanowska, who trained directly under Joseph H. Pilates and inherited his gym.

Established by Simona in 1996, The Art of Control Pilates Studio (currently sited in Stamford, Connecticut) has a very wide clientele base across New York and Connecticut ranging from professional dancers and athletes to even Hollywood stars.

Being a dancer for more than 45 years herself, Simona has performed in both Europe and the US, and frequently appearing on the television as dancer and Pilates Instructor.

Since 2006, Simona has been a faculty member of the State University of New York, teaching Pilates and developed her Pilates Certificate programme, The Art and Science of Contrology®. She teaches this programme internationally and has presented at workshops and conferences all over the world.

Simona is also a Licensed Massage Therapist for more than 20 years and was even part of the Massage Therapy Team at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece and the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy. She is also a Feldenkrais Method® practitioner since 2009.

Simona has an extensive professional membership with several organisations such as the non-profit Pilates Method Alliance (PMA), the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA), Febias Alumni and Friends Association in North America (FAFNA) and the Authentic Pilates Union (APU) where she served as the former Head of Membership Committee.

Simona has published numerous articles on Pilates and conceived a Pilates DVD series for Pre-Pilates to Advanced levels and is currently in the process of publishing a book on Pilates Mat and Small Apparatus.

Online/Hybrid Course for Singapore, 2022

 

Online/Hybrid Mat Instructor Training

This four-part program qualifies you as an instructor of the Traditional Pilates Mat Program. Instruction is provided by Simona Cipriani, a Second-Generation teacher of the original Pilates Method with direct lineage from Joseph H. Pilates. You can use this Instructor Training to find employment in Pilates studios, chiropractic and physical therapy (physiotherapy) offices, universities, and fitness/athletic clubs, or to start your own business. And of course you will gain control of your health and well-being through the Pilates Method of Mind Body Conditioning. A provision is available to transfer/bridge into Full Instructor Training upon completion of Mat Instructor Training.

 

Structure of the Online/Hybrid Mat Instructor Training Program

Prerequisites and Application The student must:

  1. have completed 16 hours of Pilates instruction before the start of the program—16 Mat group classes (submit a Prerequisite Log Sheet).

  2. attend a private evaluation session with an ASCPIT representative;

  3. be able to demonstrate proficiency in Mat workouts;

  4. submit the following paperwork (contact edufit.asia@gmail.com for forms):

Learn to

Physically perform the Traditional Pilates Mat exercises and instruct clients on how to perform them with clear and detailed step-by-step directions.

Master the physical and mental principles and philosophy of the Traditional Pilates Mat Program. Gain a solid understanding of the anatomy, physiology, and motion of the body.

Course Practicum (Parts 1-3)

Students are required to accumulate a total of 100 apprentice (online observation/practice/teaching) hours at instructor-approved studios, as indicated in the following chart (this includes a total of 10 additional hours of Pilatesology videos online). Only Traditional Pilates Mat work is acceptable; no other work, including Pilates equipment/apparatus work, will be counted. The program must be finished within TWELVE MONTHS of the start date. Extensions are available; they are granted on a case- by-case basis. An extension request must first be submitted in writing to be considered.

Pilates Mat Module I (Pre-Pilates & Beginner)

Explore the life of Joseph H. Pilates and how he created the Art and Science of Contrology (the Pilates Method of Body Conditioning). Learn the Six Major Principles of Pilates and the importance of the powerhouse and core stabilization. Master the Pre-Pilates and Beginner Pilates Mat exercises, including small apparatus exercises, and learn to instruct clients with clear and detailed step-by-step directions. Integrate these Pilates exercises into your daily mind & body conditioning routine.

Bring workout clothes, Mat, 2-4 lb free weights, Thera-band, and Magic Circle.

Module I ends with completion of 30 Logged Hours of Observation/Practice/Teaching and a two- part exam:

Pilates Mat Module II (Intermediate)

Take your Pilates training to a higher level. Beginning with a review of Mat Module I, facilitate the progression of the client’s workout. Incorporate hands-on skills (virtually), imagery, rhythm, and dynamic motion in the exercises to facilitate the client’s learning process. Learn the Five Elements of the Mind and the importance of the mind-body-spirit connection. Study the importance of resistance work in the Pilates workout.

Bring workout clothes, Mat, 2-4 lb free weights, and Magic Circle.

Module II ends with completion of an additional 30 Logged Hours (for a total of 60 hours) of Observation/Practice/Teaching and a two-part exam:

Pilates Mat Module III (Advanced)

Take your Pilates training to the highest level. Master the most advanced Pilates Mat exercises and learn to instruct clients with clear and detailed step-by-step directions. Focus on the transitions between exercises to create a stronger, more fluid practice. Integrate these Pilates exercises into your daily mind & body conditioning routine.

Bring workout clothes, Mat, 2-4 lb free weights, and Magic Circle.

Module III ends with completion of an additional 30 Logged Hours (for a total of 90 hours) of Observation/Practice/Teaching and a two-part exam:

Anatomy and Physiology for Pilates (Online Distance-Learning Course) (Part 4)

Dates: To be completed before attending Pilates Module II (Intermediate) exam.

Recommended text: Kinesiology: The Skeletal System and Muscle Function, 3rd Edition by Joseph E. Muscolino.

Prerequisites: None. 

Anatomy Course Description

This course is a self-paced distance-learning course in which you view the course videos and read and study the content, and then show proficiency by passing a written exam taken online.

Learn the basic anatomy and physiology (kinesiology) of the musculoskeletal system by studying the bones, joints, and major muscles of the body, as well as how the nervous system coordinates muscle function. Study postural concepts used to describe body position, as well as concepts of dynamic movement patterns to understand how the body moves spatially. By learning and understanding fundamental kinesiology, you can begin to critically understand, discuss, and teach the strengthening and stretching exercises of the Pilates Method of body conditioning.

The Anatomy course ends with an exam:

The exam is written and taken online. It takes approximately 30-60 minutes to complete.
